ANTONIO LOZOYA
Bass

Antonio has performed in festivals in Mexico, Cuba and the United States. He has been worked with prominent national and international jazz personalities. Since 1999 he has produced many concerts in Mexico with his band San Miguel Jazz Cats. Since 1997 he has worked in many capacities for the SMJF including: musician, director of education, musical director and producer. For five years he has delivered a series of concerts and didactic lectures on the history and appreciation of jazz at the festival. In 2006, Lozoya reactivated the festival and added blues performances to the program; since then, he has been directing SMJF. For his work, Lozoya was the 2014 beneficiary of the Performing Artists with Trajectory Award from the National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA).

PEDRO CARTAS
Violin

He was born in Cuba and studied violin from the age of 8 at the National School of Arts of Cuba, later in the Higher Institute of Arts of Havana, studied Composition and Orchestration, where he graduated as a Concertista, studied the method of Harmony and Composition Of the Berkeley School of Music in Havana. At the age of 22, he joined the National Orchestra of Cuba, where he remained for 7 years. At the same time, he formed the orchestration of “Los Violines del Tropicana”, at age 28, he was selected to perform as concertmaster with the Cuban Radio Orchestra. In the year of 1988 obtains a scholarship to study Laudería in the School of Beautiful Arts in the city of Mexico, where it decides to stay to live. He has participated in different festivals within Cuba and Mexico. In 1991 he joined the Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City. At the same time, he participates in concerts and recordings with artists such as Placido Domingo, Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Leo Brower, among others. In 1992 he joined the Querétaro State Symphony, simultaneously forming the duet Cartas y Gil in San Miguel de Allende. He then began touring with symphony orchestras in different cities of the United States, accompanied by his group and led by trumpeter Doc Severinsen.

JULIÁN ARCOS
Guitar

Independent professional musician, originally from Mexico City and based in San Miguel de Allende, with extensive experience of musical genres such as Blues, Jazz, Rock, Funk, among many others. Guitarist leader of the group Vudu Chile with whom he has appeared in various Festivals. His study of Gypsy music in the style of Django Reinhardt has been particularly one of the styles he likes to play and share.
